At Barron Construction & Renovation, LLC our focus on disaster recovery is a reflection of our focus on people. We use our skills and resources to rehabilitate homes, schools, and community buildings that have been devastated by disaster. As a company, we believe it is important to support and provide recovery for people and communities in crisis.
When Hurricane Katrina destroyed the Gulf Coast in 2005, Barron Construction was at the forefront of reconstructing areas that were hit the worst. We spent three years on the Gulf Coast re-building schools, churches and administrative facilities. Our priority, after Hurricane Katrina, was to provide safe, quality buildings for people to work and learn in as quickly as possible.
When the 2018 catastrophic flooding occurred that devastated Austin and the surrounding Hill Country, Barron Construction & Renovation, LLC was there to support our neighbors and community. Here are some things to know when disaster strikes:
While your first instinct following a disaster may be to start cleaning up, it is important for your insurer to have an accurate account of the damage. Before removing debris or damaged belongings, make sure to take photos or video of the damage. Reserve small pieces of damaged items in case the insurer wants proof (samples of damaged carpet, padding, wood flooring, insulation, sheet rock, etc.). Make a list of to document these losses. You should always take reasonable steps to avoid further damage to your property.
Be sure you aware of the time requirement for filing a claim. When calling to report the loss, have your policy information handy, along with the current contact information and your damage inventory.
Once you have filed your claim, it is important to use a contractor who you feel comfortable with and one that understands the process of working with your insurance company.
Finding the right contractor
Your insurance company may suggest a list of contractors or “preferred providers” it has worked with before. Please understand that you have the right to select your own contractor.
